The Director General of the National Council For Civil Society Organisation (NACCSO) and Vision-One Leadership Development Initiative (VOLDI), Rt. Comrade Emmanuel Johnny, has expressed concern over the inadequate funding of government agencies.
According to him, it's a major cause of economic stagnation in Nigeria.
In a statement issued in Abuja, Johnny lamented that the lack of sufficient funding for government agencies has led to a significant setback in the country's economic growth, resulting in widespread hardship for Nigerians.
"When there is economic stagnation, the majority of Nigerians will experience nothing but hardship, and this is the situation we find ourselves in today," he said.
He called on the Federal Government to take immediate action to address the issue, emphasizing the need for adequate funding for government agencies to boost economic activities.
He urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to prioritize the release of capital budgets and ensure that contractors are paid, stating that this would significantly reduce the burden and hardship faced by Nigerians.
"The CSOs boss urges Nigerians to continue supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration, with the hope that the Federal Government will take the necessary steps to stimulate economic growth," Johnny said.
He reiterated the importance of government agencies receiving sufficient funding to carry out their mandates effectively, warning that continued neglect would exacerbate the country's economic challenges.
Johnny emphasized that the current economic stagnation has far-reaching consequences, affecting not only the economy but also the overall well-being of Nigerians.
He urged the government to take concrete measures to address the issue, ensuring that the welfare of the Nigerian people is prioritized.
"We must continue to appeal to Mr. President that there is urgent need for the Federal Government to address the issue of inadequate funding for government agencies, which has contributed significantly to the country's economic stagnation. It is hoped that the government will take heed of the call and take necessary actions to stimulate economic growth and improve the lives of Nigerians."
