Accused of fraudulently obtaining the sum of N11 million from a woman, the Police Command in Edo State said it has arrested a 40-year-old travel agent.
The agent had purportedly received the money towards procuring travel documents to the U.S. for the woman.
The Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, ,Mr Chidi Nwabuzor, briefed newsmen disclosed in Benin on Tuesday
He was briefing newsmen on the arrest of 14 persons suspected to have committed various crimes.
According to him, the visa scam suspect would appear in court “after an ongoing discreet investigation into the case”
He said that operatives of the anti-kidnapping and cyber crime unit also arrested two siblings, Kasim Ajala, 35, and Jamiu Ajala, 29, over alleged fraud.
The command also arrested seven suspects over alleged cultism, including one Clinton Iyen, who allegedly conspired with other colleagues to kill a rival at Igun area in Benin.
Nwabuzor said the command intercepted five bags of weeds suspected to be hemp, from an Anambra-bound commercial bus.
He said: “Operatives of the command’s monitoring unit, while acting on credible information, intercepted a vehicle which was conveying weeds suspected to be hemp from Lagos to Anambra State.
“The operatives have arrested the driver, one Nwankwo Afamefuna. His vehicle was searched and five bags of weeds suspected to be hemp were found in it. He will soon be charged to court.”
The police spokesman said the command also arrested one Efosa Iyase, who has confessed to being a member of a syndicate consistently involved in burglary and stealing of properties in Benin City.
Nwabuzor said the operatives also recovered items, which included arms and ammunition, three laptops, 24 android phones, 11 Bolton phones and one ipad phone, among others. (NAN)
