President Bola Tinubu on Monday felicitated with Cardinal John Onaiyekan on his 80th birthday.
Onaiyekan was the Archbishop of Abuja from 1994 to 2019.
He also served as President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Catholic Bishops Conference and Bishop of Ilorin.
The President, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, described him as an exceptional religious leader that used his calling to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ, fight for the downtrodden and spoke out against ills in the society.
He said that the Cardinal also used his office judiciously by showing good examples through unbendimg pursuit of peace and unity in the country.
Thanking Onaiyekan for his sacrifices and efforts in peace-building in Nigeria, Tinubu assured him that his hope and prayers for a glorious and united Nigeria would manifest.
The President wished His Eminence more prosperous years in the Lord’s Vineyard.
