Angry youths at Ikpeshi in Akoko-Edo local government area of Edo State, were reported to have beaten two Mobile policemen to death on Sunday.
They were also said to have injured two other policemen who were rescued from the youth.
The four policemen were from Police Mobile Force (PMF) 19, Port Harcourt in Rivers State.
The youth were said to have lost their cool when an accident involving a Toyota Hilux vehicle belonging to escort-duty policemen in the convoy of former Edo House of Assembly member, Emmanuel Agbaje, hit a motorcycle, resulting in the death of the rider, a woman, and her child.
The report said the Ikpeshi youths immediately invaded the office of Edo State Security Vigilance Network, where the two policemen were taken.
They overpowered them there and beat them to death.
The other two remaining policemen were said to have been rescued by the vigilance members, and their rifles were recovered.
Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Police Command, Superintendent of Police (SP), Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the incident.
The rescued officers were taken to an undisclosed hospital in Edo State receiving treatment.
Chairman of Akoko-Edo local government council, Tajudeen Alade, condemned the actions of the youths, and said the persons involved would be identified, arrested and prosecuted, to serve as a deterrence to other errant youths.
