The Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has commended President Bola Tinubu for donating seventy trucks of fertilizer to support agricultural activities in the state.
A statement issued on Thursday by the Governor's spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, has disclosed this.
According to the statement, the Governor announced the President's gesture during the inauguration of rural access roads in Dawakin Kudu Local Government of the state.
The fertiliser, the Governor assured, will be promptly distributed to farmers in the state.
The Governor extended his heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the government and the gracious people of Kano for the President's support towards the farmers.
“Kano remains steadfast in its commitment to agricultural transformation by ensuring the accessibility and affordability of high-quality agricultural inputs to enhance crop production within the state” he said.
Previously, the Governor had directed the state-owned Kano Agricultural Supply Company (KASCO) to begin extensive production of fertilizer in preparation for the upcoming 2024 rainy season, with the objective of aiding smallholder farmers across the state.
"As one of Nigeria's leading crop-producing states, Kano is blessed with vast arable land suitable for cultivating staple crops such as rice, maize, soybeans, groundnuts, sesame, hibiscus, and sorghum." the statement stated.
