Making light of the incident at Eagle Square in Abuja on Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu maintained that he didn't slip but 'dobale' for democracy.
'Dobale', a word in Yoruba language means prostrating as a sign of respect to someone or something.
A trending video of the President tripping had stormed the social media on Wednesday from the Eagle Square in Abuja during an event for the 2024 Democracy Day.
Tinubu had missed a step while climbing the parade vehicle, but quickly regained his balance and continued with the activities for the day.
Rather than feel bad about the situation, the President later said democracy in Nigeria is worth falling for.
Jokingly, he said at the dinner event in the night that he had only “dobale”, that is paid homage to democracy in the Yoruba style.
“I ‘dobale’ for democracy,” (meaning I prostrate for Democracy)." he stated
President Tinubu also used the dinner event to call for the unity of Nigeria irrespective of tribe, religion, or political affiliations.
He said the unity of Nigeria cannot be traded.
Since the incident, reactions have continued to pour in from several Nigerians including members of the opposition.
