Coalition of civil society organisations in Oyo state on Friday declared Saturday and Sunday as protest-free days across the state.
The Coalition during the Friday protest announced that the strike would resume back on Monday morning by 8:00am.
However, normalcy is gradually returning to Ibadan and other parts of the state as shops and markets re-opened for business.
Also, commercial and private vehicles are now more on the road with more commuters on the roads unlike the situation on Thursday.
Our visits to Sango, Ojoo, Iwo road, Agodi gate, Oje, Ojaba, Molete, Challenge axis back to Dugbe, Eleyele towards Mokola and the state government secretariat and Bodija revealed that business activities had resumed in those areas.
Some protesters were sighted at UI to Ojoo, Agbowo to Iwo road and Mokola, Orita Challenge around 8:00am by 9:00am, singing anti-government songs during which they took time to address the masses on the need for a positive change in the country.
Speaking on the situation in the state, the state Police Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Adewale Osifeso, said the situation was calm in and across the state since Thursday.
SP Osifeso maintained that men of the Police Command had not reported any crisis in and across the state.
The PPRO assured the people that the Police would continue to protect them and their businesses.
Speaking on behalf of the Coalition, Comrade Abiodun Bamigboye, said the protest was to task the government on good governance and end the hardships in the country.
He disclosed that the protest would be between 8:00am to 12:00pm to enable the people “go back to their different places to continue with their businesses.”
He commended security agencies in the state for their support and conduct during the protest.
