To boost end-of-year enforcement against traffic offenders, the Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Shehu Mohammed, has directed Commanding Officers to activate mobile court operations in their areas.
The step the FRSC said is another proactive approach towards maintaining sanity and reducing incidences of road traffic crashes on the highways during the festive season and beyond.
The directive, according to a statement by Olusegun Ogungbemide, Assistant Corps Marshal, Corps Public Education Officer, FRSC Headquarters
Abuja, has become very necessary because "mobile court operations help to promptly prosecute traffic offenders, serving as a deterrent to potential violators."
To achieve maximum impact, the statement said, Commanding Officers are expected to take responsibility for implementing mobile court operations effectively by working closely with relevant stakeholders, especially the judiciary, to ensure seamless prosecution of traffic rules violators.
As a prelude to the operations, the Corps Marshal also ordered them to ensure robust engagement and public enlightenment campaigns to educate road users about the importance of adhering to traffic laws.
The Corps Marshal therefore called on drivers and vehicle owners to put their vehicles in good shape, ensure that their vehicle and drivers licenses are up to date.
He emphasised on the imperatives of observing established traffic rules and regulations on all roads to avoid prosecution as no driver will be spared if arrested going against the law.
