*As ZLP Elects New National Working Committee
The National Chairman of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Barrister Dan Nwanyanwu, on Thursday slammed former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, for accusing opposition political parties of collecting N50 million each from President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Stressing that the accusation was a lie, he said that he felt insulted by such unfounded allegation.
According to him, the accusation was an attempt to distract the public from real governance issues.
He challenged the former Vice President to name those who collected the N50 million and their political parties.
Nwanyanwu, who was reelected Chairman on Thursday at the party’s 2025 National Convention in Abuja, granted interview to journalists at the end of the convention.
He said "Nobody collected anything. That was a loose talk aimed at tarnishing the image of political parties.
"Let him mention the names of those who collected the money and their political parties." he stated
“Let it be clear: The Zenith Labour Party is not for sale. We have not received one naira from the APC, nor have we been influenced by President Tinubu or any other political actor.
"Our commitment is to the Nigerian people, and we will continue to advocate for a transparent and people-driven political process.”
He said the ZLP remains an independent and progressive party determined to contest the 2027 elections on its own merits.
He also reaffirmed the party’s commitment to internal unity, grassroots mobilization, and credible political leadership.
Delegates who attended the National convention from the various States of the Federation successfully electing a new National Working Committee (NWC) to steer the party’s affairs for the next four years, beyond the coming 2027 general elections.
The new officials were sworn in and Oath of office administered on them during the convention.
Addressing party members, Barrister Nwanyanwu stressed on the importance of unity within the ZLP, adding that internal cohesion is critical to achieving the party’s political goals.
“Our strength as a party lies in our unity. We must put aside personal interests and work together for the progress of the Zenith Labour Party.
"We are not just a political organization; we are a movement for credible governance in Nigeria.” he said
He urged party members to remain focused and dedicated, assuring them that the new NWC would prioritize engagement with party faithful at all levels.
The National Chairman emphasized that the new leadership would work tirelessly to strengthen the party’s structures and position it as a formidable alternative in the 2027 general elections.
With the party unveiling a roadmap toward the 2027 elections, Barr. Nwanyanwu assured Nigerians that ZLP would present credible candidates and offer alternative solutions to Nigeria’s governance challenges.
“We are not just preparing to contest; we are preparing to lead. The people of Nigeria deserve better governance, and ZLP is ready to provide that alternative,” he stated.
He also called on Nigerians to join the party’s movement for change, assuring that the ZLP would work to ensure a fair and democratic electoral process.
