The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Tuesday announced 150 score as the minimum cut-off mark for admission into Nigerian universities for the 2025/2026 academic session.
Other cut-off marks for other institutions include, Colleges of Nursing Sciences, 140; Polytechnics, 100; Colleges of Education, 100 and Colleges of Agriculture, 100.
These were arrived at on Tuesday in Abuja after extensive deliberation by head of institutions – Vice-Chancellors, Rectors and Provosts, during the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre.
The Federal Government also set 16 years as the minimum admissible age for candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
This age requirement will be enforced through JAMB’s Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), with flexibility granted to applicants who will turn 16 by August 31, 2025.
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, who chaired the meeting, announced the new policy, emphasizing that the government aims to align Nigeria’s education system with international standards.
The JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, said that the approved scores are the minimum thresholds and no institution is allowed to go below them.
The policy decision, he said, was aimed at ensuring fairness, access, and quality across the board.
“This policy reflects the reality of our education system and the need to align admission processes with merit, equity, and capacity,” Oloyede stated.
The policy meeting also reaffirmed the centrality of institutional autonomy in admissions, but within a framework that promotes national standards.
Institutions are expected to conclude their admission processes in line with the approved schedule and report to JAMB for central processing.
