The 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League Champions Remo Stars will open the new season with Rivers Utd as league opener tagged Star match bill for August 22nd at Ikene, Ogun State.
This was made known at the NPFL draws held alongside the Annual General Meeting, AGM, of the elite League body at the Abuja Continental Hotel.
The other fixtures of the league will be played a week after the opening match.
Other fixtures are Abia Warriors v Kano Pillars, Wikki Tourist v Plateau Utd, Katsina Utd v Warri Wolves, Rangers vs Kunkalifat fc.
Other fixtures include Kwara Utd v Ikorodu City, Elkanemi Warriors v Insurance, Shooting Stars v Bayelsa Utd, Barua FC v Enyimba and Nigerians Tornadoes v Nasarawa Utd.
The AGM was declared open by the NFF President Ibrahim Gusau represented by the Federation General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi who commended the League Board for the improvement in terms of administration and officiating.
Sanusi revealed that the extension of the NPFL Board was due to positives in the just concluded season and charged them board to do more on the incoming league season by taking a look at security, fans engagement and club licensing..
"NFF want the league board to look at areas like club licensing, security and. fans engagement which is very crucial if fans are to return to the stadium. Clubs should also be ready to embrace VAR in our league venues to make officiating for credible. Our boys are good and I know for CHAN kicking off next month our league boys will make us proud." Said Sanusi.
The AGM officially relegated the bottom four at the 2024/2025 season.
The clubs are Lobi Stars, Heartland FC , Sunshine FC
and Akwa Utd.
The demoted clubs are to play at the lower league Nigeria National League, NNL while four clubs Kunkalifat FC, Warri Wolves, Barua FC and Wikki Tourist that emerged tops and runners up after the Super 8 in Asaba were officially promoted to compete at the elite League known as Nigeria Premier Football League NPFL at the 2025/2026 football season.
