Towards promoting the health, well-being and productivity of public servants, the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, in collaboration with the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) and the Tulsi Chanrai Foundation, on Thursday, July 23, 2026, organised a free eye screening programme for members of staff of the Ministry.
The exercise, held at the Ministry’s Conference Room in Abuja, was designed to encourage the early detection, prevention and treatment of eye-related conditions while enhancing the overall health and productivity of the workforce.
Prior to the commencement of the exercise, the Director overseeing the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Engr. Ali Ibrahim Dallah, welcomed the General Manager of the Tulsi Chanrai Foundation, Mr. Anurag Misra, and his medical team on behalf of the Honourable Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr. Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev.
He described the initiative as a laudable partnership that reflects the shared commitment of the Federal Government and its partners to improving the welfare of civil servants through accessible healthcare services.
He noted that good eyesight is essential for enhanced productivity, sound decision-making and efficient service delivery, stressing that regular eye examinations play a critical role in the early detection and treatment of vision-related ailments before they become severe.
The Minister, in a statement by Mrs. Funmi Imuetinyan, Director Information and PR, encouraged members of staff to take full advantage of the opportunity, reaffirming the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to staff welfare in line with the objectives of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP).
He emphasized that a healthy workforce remains fundamental to the successful delivery of the Ministry’s mandate and expressed appreciation to the Tulsi Chanrai Foundation and the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation for facilitating the initiative.
He thereafter declared the programme officially open.
The free eye screening programme featured comprehensive eye examinations, vision tests and professional consultations for members of staff, while participants requiring further medical attention were appropriately referred for specialised care.
In his remarks, the General Manager of the Tulsi Chanrai Foundation, Mr. Anurag Misra, commended members of staff for their impressive turnout and reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to improving the quality of life of Nigerians through interventions in primary healthcare, quality eye care, and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH).
He highlighted the Foundation’s longstanding contributions across the country, including the construction and rehabilitation of boreholes, strengthening community-based WASH management systems, provision of maternal and child healthcare services, and delivery of specialised eye care. According to him, the Foundation has successfully carried out more than 200,000 eye surgeries through its network of healthcare facilities nationwide.
Mr. Misra explained that the outreach was part of the Foundation’s corporate social responsibility and a gesture of appreciation for the Federal Government’s continued support. He assured participants that those requiring further diagnosis or treatment would receive referrals to the Foundation’s hospitals, where specialised care would be provided at subsidised rates.
The initiative further demonstrated the Federal Government’s resolve to prioritise the health and well-being of its workforce through strategic partnerships that support preventive healthcare, improve staff welfare and enhance productivity across the public service.
