Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued a kidnapped victim in Kaduna State and foiled a terrorist attack in Sokoto State as the military sustains its offensive across the region.
This was disclosed in a press release by Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force.
On 20 August 2026, troops of Sector 1 responded to a distress call following the abduction of a 43-year-old man around Awon Community in Kachia LGA of Kaduna State.
The troops swiftly pursued the terrorists into surrounding bushes, forcing them to abandon their captive and flee.
The victim was subsequently reunited with his family.
A day later, on 21 August, troops of Sector 2, working with local security elements, responded to a terrorist attack on Kwaren Gamba Village in Sabon Birni LGA of Sokoto State.
During the subsequent pursuit, one terrorist was neutralized.
Items recovered included two mobile phones, cash, an ATM card, recharge cards and other items.
Lt. Col. Danja said the operations underscored the “sustained pressure being mounted by Operation FANSAN YAMMA against terrorists and criminal elements across the North-West”, while highlighting the importance of “rapid response and timely intelligence in protecting vulnerable communities.”
“The Joint Task Force remains resolute in sustaining operations to deny terrorists freedom of action and create a safer environment across the Joint Operations Area,” he said.
The Theatre Command reassured the public that troops would continue to respond decisively to emerging threats and urged citizens to “remain vigilant and provide timely, credible information to security forces in support of efforts to restore lasting peace and security.”
