President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the recruitment of 3,252 verified Parent-Teacher Association, PTA, teachers in Federal Unity Colleges, a move the Federal Government says will address teacher shortages and strengthen quality education nationwide.
The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, disclosed this on Thursday, August 6, 2026, describing the approval as a landmark intervention under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Dr. Alausa, in a statement by Ikharo Attah, Special Adviser, Media and Communications, said the decision recognises the dedication of PTA teachers, many of whom have served in Federal Unity Colleges and Federal Technical Colleges for almost 25 years.
"This is a President who cares deeply for Nigeria and for the future of our country. Priority will be given to absorbing verified PTA teachers... This approval provides them with the opportunity to become part of the mainstream public service."
He noted that the recruitment will improve the teacher-student ratio in Federal Unity Colleges while rewarding teachers who have supported learning despite years of uncertainty.
According to the Minister, the approval followed a comprehensive verification exercise by an Inter-Ministerial Committee, which screened and verified 3,252 teachers across the cadres of Education Officers, Assistant Education Officers and Technical Instructors.
The verified teachers will be regularised into the federal public service upon completion of all statutory requirements.
Dr. Alausa said bringing experienced teachers into the public service will preserve institutional knowledge, strengthen classroom instruction and enhance learning outcomes.
"The recruitment forms part of the Federal Government's broader efforts to improve teacher quality and reposition the colleges as centres of academic excellence."
The Ministry said it will work closely with relevant government agencies to conclude the remaining statutory processes for final recruitment approval in line with public service regulations.
The Minister expressed appreciation to President Tinubu, stating that investing in teachers is fundamental to building a stronger education system.
"This administration is determined to ensure that every child in our Federal Unity Colleges is taught by qualified, motivated and professionally supported teachers. We will continue to pursue reforms that improve learning outcomes and restore confidence in public education for the benefit of every Nigerian child."
He assured all verified PTA teachers that the regularisation process will be concluded with transparency, fairness and diligence.
