A fierce military pursuit of kidnappers has forced them to abandon their victims in Katsina State, which paved the way for ten kidnapped civilians, including an infant, to be rescued.
They were rescued on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, by troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA.
The troops had followed reports that terrorists had abducted residents of Unguwan Daudu and Unguwan Chibauna communities in Funtua Local Government Area, with swift response.
Following the receipt of actionable intelligence, troops deployed around the Sabuwa axis were immediately mobilised to track the fleeing terrorists and rescue their captives.
The military pursuit reportedly put the terrorists under intense pressure, compelling them to abandon the victims and flee as troops closed in.
All 10 victims were subsequently recovered safely, comprising three adult males, six females and one infant, according to the operational account.
The rescued civilians are expected to be handed over to the Sabuwa Local Government authorities for medical evaluation and necessary support before their reunion with their respective families.
The latest rescue operation highlights the continued pressure being mounted by troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA against terrorists and kidnappers operating across the North-West, particularly in areas where criminal groups target vulnerable communities.
The successful intervention also underscores the importance of timely intelligence in enabling troops to rapidly respond to attacks, pursue fleeing criminals and prevent abducted civilians from being taken deeper into terrorist hideouts.
