Umahi In Kano, Seeks Second Term for Tinubu on Account of Infrastructural Drive, Hails Gov Yusuf's Leadership

The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has called on Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's bid for a second term, citing the administration's infrastructure drive, economic reforms and sustainable growth agenda.

Umahi spoke on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, during a Town Hall Meeting at the Coronation Hall in Kano, ahead of the commissioning of major road projects scheduled Wednesday, October 21, 2026.

The Minister commended Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his leadership, inclusiveness and efforts to promote peace, unity and development.

He described Kano's cleanliness as exemplary.

"I am yet to see another State that is beating Kano in cleanliness. In all the streets we passed through, you could pick a pin," Umahi stated in a statement by Mohammed, Director of Information and Public Relations.

He lauded Governor Yusuf for bringing together political leaders, former governors, prominent indigenes and stakeholders, describing it as a demonstration of mutual respect and commitment to collective progress.

Umahi advocated greater opportunities for engineers in leadership positions, noting their technical expertise and problem-solving abilities could significantly improve governance and infrastructure delivery.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the South-East to national unity and President Tinubu's administration, dismissing perceptions that the zone was politically opposed to the President.

Speaking on the Federal Government's economic reforms, the Minister described the removal of fuel subsidy and other policy decisions as difficult but necessary steps to reposition the economy.

"The worst is over. The darkest part of the morning is the dawn. We are moving into prosperity as a result of the hard decisions occasioned by the reforms," he said.

He urged Kano residents to support both President Tinubu and Governor Yusuf for second terms, arguing that continuity would sustain infrastructure development, strengthen national unity and consolidate reform gains.

Umahi said the peaceful atmosphere, cleanliness and unity he witnessed in Kano had positively influenced his perception of the state.

Earlier, Governor Yusuf thanked the Federal Government for its commitment to infrastructure development and for road projects improving economy, transportation and connectivity in the State and the North-West.

He described the scheduled commissioning of outstanding works on the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Expressway, Section I, Lot 1 (Zaria-Kano), as a major milestone and demonstration of the Federal Government's commitment to road transportation.

Yusuf expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for infrastructure interventions and support to the state, expressing optimism for a successful commissioning ceremony.

The Federal Ministry of Works also reiterated its commitment to delivering durable, safe and quality road infrastructure in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
