Some operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested a masquerade, fondly called Oriokpa, for allegedly assaulting a female nurse in the Nsukka area of the state.
The 22-year-old masquerader, identified as Ugwuoke Ebube, was arrested by police operatives serving in the Nsukka Sector of the Enugu State Command’s Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad.
Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer DSP Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed this in a statement.
The PPRO said an investigation into the case revealed that the suspect was part of a group of masqueraders who assaulted a female nurse riding on a motorcycle, as captured in a viral video in April.
Ndukwe said the masquerader was arraigned before the Nsukka Magistrate Court in Enugu State and was granted bail by the court.
Ndukwe noted that Enugu State Commissioner of Police Kanayo Uzuegbu, while condemning the act, warned those intending to hide under the guise of culturally celebrating masquerades to commit such criminal act of assault against fellow citizens to desist forthwith.
Uzuegbu said that the command will henceforth not hesitate to bring anyone found wanting to book.
