The University of Abuja is once more at the threshold of history as preparations and campaigns are geared up for election of representatives from the Senate and Congregation
It is a topmost process that places the University on its democratic governance
The University of Abuja ALUMNI ASSOCIATION WORLDWIDE heartily congratulate and will always appreciate those who fought relentlessly to bring the University back on such glorious paths
This is a time for serious scrutiny, assessment and judgement
Those men and women of questionable characters who acted or contributed in many
ways to plunge the University into a dark era should as a matter of urgency and seriousness be screened out of any contest . Where is their conscience?
Is that the level of moral decay among people?
Elections should be reserved for people of tested integrity and honour
It is disheartening to see such people as Prof Abu Mallam, Prof Umar Kasim , Dr Ugoh coming out to ask the university community to vote them into COUNCIL to enable them finish the assignment they were given in bringing the university down
Prof Rebecca Ndana publicly condemned the agitation against illegality and irregularities
She recently boasted of her roles in that illegal appointment of Prof Aisha Maikudi. Prof Ndana’s presence in Council is utterly suspicious. Senate members must be wise.
Proponents of ethnic or religious divisive tendencies must not be elected into council
The strengths in our diversity must be recognized at all times
Any contestant campaigning on religious reasons or ethnic bases must be dishonored for the sake of the university .
Inexperienced candidates should not be the best options at this point in time .
Candidates convicted of massive embezzlements during their headship of any University revenue generating unit should be dropped from the contest.
For the sake of emphasis and clarity , a good example here is Prof Siyan Peter who looted school fees collections while serving as Director of Distance Learning and Continuing Education, he was investigated and found guilty and is now contesting to be elected as a council member.
All those who saw WHITE and called it BLACK during the last council / administration are not in any way worthy of consideration in the present democratic dispensation
This is a clarion call on Senate Members and Congregation to vote wisely. The university needs people of integrity, sincerity, sacrifice and trustworthiness when those virtues matter most
