The Nigeria Chess Federation (NCF) has announced a significant milestone in Nigeria’s bid to host the prestigious FIDE World Amateur Rapid & Blitz Championships and the FIDE World Amateur Championships.
As part of the official bidding process, FIDE Inspector, Mr. Sergei Indeikin most recently visited Abuja, Nigeria, to conduct an on-site assessment of the proposed venue and facilities earmarked for the Championships.
The inspection, according a statement by Nigeria Chess Federation, marks the successful completion of the second stage of the evaluation process, bringing Nigeria one step closer to hosting this global chess event.
It reads "The visit provided an opportunity to showcase Abuja’s readiness, infrastructure, hospitality, and capacity to host an international event of this magnitude. From venue standards to logistics, transportation and organizational capability, Nigeria demonstrated its commitment to delivering a world-class tournament experience.
"The Nigeria Chess Federation expresses its satisfaction with the progress made so far and remains optimistic about a favorable response from FIDE as they enter the most critical part of the selection processes." it stated
Hosting the Championships, the statement noted, would not only position Nigeria as a leading hub for chess development in Africa, but also further strengthen the country’s growing reputation on the global chess stage.
"The Federation extends its appreciation to all stakeholders, partners, and supporters who continue to contribute to this ambitious vision." it concluded
