The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has again demonstrated its zero tolerance for indiscipline and assault on its personnel, as a recalcitrant traffic offender, Suleiman Abubakar, has been remanded at the Nasarawa Correctional Centre for 7 days following his arraignment before a Magistrate Court on Thursday, 16 April 2026.
The offender, who was apprehended along the Nasarawa–Keffi route at about 1500hrs while driving a Toyota Previa with registration number KMC 566CY, was initially flagged down for overloading.
Upon further checks, he was found to be driving without a valid driver’s licence and subsequently attempted to bribe operatives of the RS4.33 Nasarawa Unit Command, an offer that was firmly rejected.
In a shocking escalation, a statement by Deputy Corps Commander Osondu Ohaeri, Corps Public Education Officer, FRSC Headquarters , said the suspect forcefully abducted the Patrol Team Leader while attempting to evade arrest.
"However, the officer courageously resisted and successfully neutralised the situation after the vehicle had traveled approximately 3 kilometres from the patrol point.
"Following his arrest, the vehicle was impounded while the suspect was handed over to the Nigeria Police, Nasarawa Division, for prosecution. At the court hearing, the accused pleaded guilty to all five charges brought against him. Consequently, the presiding Magistrate ordered his remand at the Nasarawa Correctional Centre for 7 days, pending judgement scheduled for Thursday, 23 April 2026."
This development, the statement said, is another proof of FRSC’s stand on upholding the rule of law and protecting its personnel from acts of aggression.
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed who was elated by the judgement commended the Judiciary while reiterating that the Corps is steadily winning the fight against assault on its operatives, as offenders are being decisively prosecuted and brought to justice.
