The announcement was made in a statement by Hajiya Aisha Ibrahim, National President of NAWOJ, after a courtesy visit by NAWOJ National Executive to the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Alhassan Yahaya.
According to Aisha Ibrahim, the development marks a significant milestone in the association’s history.
At the visit, she disclosed that the association has successfully secured the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) for the allocated land in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), following the completion of all required documentation and processes.
She noted that the process involved meeting stringent regulatory requirements, including the submission of formal authorization, minutes and attendance of the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting approving the action, as well as relevant corporate and identification documents, adding that the NEC had formally mandated the leadership to proceed with the acquisition.
The NAWOJ Chairperson further revealed that the association overcame bureaucratic challenges and potential setbacks through timely intervention and internal support.
She disclosed that a total sum of ₦1,597,000 was expended to complete the process, culminating in the successful issuance of the Certificate of Occupancy.
She expressed appreciation to stakeholders and supporters who played key roles in facilitating access to relevant authorities and ensuring the successful completion of the process.
Highlighting the significance of the achievement, the NAWOJ Chairperson stated that the acquisition of the land represents a strategic investment in the institutional stability and welfare of NAWOJ members nationwide.
She added that plans are already underway to commence development on the site, with the goal of establishing a functional structure within the shortest possible time.
She also acknowledged the support of the NUJ President, particularly his earlier intervention in assisting NAWOJ to retain its National Secretariat through support towards rent obligations at a critical time.
In his response, the NUJ National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahya, commended NAWOJ for what he described as a landmark achievement, noting that the acquisition of land and securing of the Certificate of Occupancy is a legacy that will stand the test of time.
He congratulated the NAWOJ leadership and all women journalists in Nigeria, reaffirming NUJ’s commitment to continued collaboration and support.
He encouraged the association to expedite development on the land and emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships in achieving sustainable growth.
The courtesy visit further reinforced the strong relationship between NAWOJ and NUJ, underscoring a shared commitment to advancing the interests, welfare, and professional development of journalists across the country.
