Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 8 Division have neutralised two terrorists and recovered weapons and motorcycles during clearance operations in Kaura Namoda and Birnin Magaji LGAs of Zamfara State on, as part of Operation CLEAN SWEEP IV.
According to military sources, the operation targeted terrorist hideouts across multiple communities to disrupt criminal activities and deny armed groups freedom of movement.
The troops began operations in Kaura Namoda LGA, clearing Ungwan Sarkin Musulmi, Gidan Dutsi, Gidan Gini, Gidan Sambo, Dayau, Madiara and Dabah.
They then advanced into Birnin Magaji LGA, where they cleared Birnin Magaji Town, Dumpami, Gabake, Gidan Katakare, Godel, Kasheni-Kura, Dan-Wala, Sabon-Birni and Garin Kaso.
Surveillance at Dumpami detected terrorist movement toward Magari Village. Contact was later made with terrorists at Garin Kaso, where troops engaged and neutralised two of them.
Recovered items include:
- 2 x AK-103-2 rifles
- 2 magazines
- 9 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition
- 2 motorcycles
While withdrawing from Gidan Kaso, the troops came under ambush by terrorists concealed in millet farms on both sides of the road.
The soldiers fought through the attack, with an unconfirmed number of terrorists reportedly neutralised during the exchange.
One soldier sustained a gunshot wound to the right upper arm and has been evacuated to a General Hospital for treatment. He is said to be in stable condition.
The Army said the operation underscores its continued efforts to disrupt terrorist networks, secure rural communities, and protect residents across Zamfara State.
“Troops remain committed to sustaining pressure on criminal elements and restoring normalcy to affected areas,” a statement noted.
