Troops Foil Ambush In Sokoto, Kill Terrorists, Recover AK-47s, Motorcycles, Rustled Cattle

Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA have neutralised several terrorists and recovered arms, motorcycles and rustled livestock during a fierce encounter in Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

According to a statement from the operation, the engagement followed credible intelligence that suspected terrorists were moving rustled livestock through the Maikujera general area of Rabah LGA.

Acting on the intelligence, troops were deployed to intercept the criminals.

While advancing to the suspected location, the team encountered an attempted ambush.

The military said troops responded with “high tactical readiness and superior firepower”, breaking through the ambush.

“Several terrorists were neutralised during the encounter, while others fled into the surrounding bush,” the statement said.

During exploitation of the area, troops recovered:

AK-47 rifles

Motorcycles used by the terrorists

Rustled livestock

The recovered animals are being processed for return to their owners.

The military said the general security situation in Rabah and Maikujera is “presently calm and stable”, with troops remaining deployed to sustain the gains.

“Troops are also maintaining high morale and conducting routine patrols and other security operations to ensure the continued safety and protection of residents in the affected communities,” the statement added.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA is part of the ongoing Joint Task Force North West effort to degrade terrorist networks and banditry across the North West region.
