Troops Thwart Mass Abduction In Zamfara, Rescue 9 Civilians Including Infant

Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA have foiled an attempted mass abduction in Unguwar Rogo Village, Kaura Namoda LGA, rescuing nine civilians including an infant after engaging terrorists in an ambush.

The operation was carried out on August 16, 2026, following a distress call that terrorists had stormed the community.

According to military sources, the attack was allegedly led by suspected terrorist kingpin Mallam Shuaibu and his associates.

Preliminary information indicated the group was angered by the earlier arrest of some collaborators while attempting to procure motorcycles and Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) for the terrorists.

In retaliation, the terrorists laid an ambush in a millet farm along the route, targeting vehicles.

Occupants whose vehicles lost control and veered into the bushes were targeted for abduction.

The troops responded swiftly and engaged the attackers with superior firepower, forcing them to withdraw into nearby bushes and denying them the opportunity to execute their plan.

During the operation, nine civilians were successfully rescued from the scene, among them an infant.

However, two female victims sustained gunshot wounds during the attack and are currently receiving medical attention.

The Army said troops are continuing to exploit the general area and have intensified efforts to track the fleeing terrorists, dismantle their support network, and prevent further attacks on communities and road users in Kaura Namoda and environs.

“The swift intervention of the troops demonstrates our resolve to protect civilians and disrupt terrorist logistics and movement across Zamfara State,” a military statement noted.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA, it said, remains active across the North West as part of the broader Operation CLEAN SWEEP IV mandate.
