The Minister of State for Works, Rt. Hon. Bello Muhammed Goronyo, has received the outgoing Egypt Defence Attaché to Nigeria, Colonel Mohammed Ibrahim, and his successor, Colonel Mohamad Mosaad, pledging continued support for stronger bilateral relations between Nigeria and Egypt.
Goronyo received the Egyptian military delegation in Abuja during a courtesy visit to his office.
The Minister of State described the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and Egypt as cordial and mutually beneficial, noting that both countries share historical and cultural ties.
He recalled his previous encounter with Colonel Ibrahim while serving at the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, describing it as a pleasant coincidence to receive him again at Works as he concludes his diplomatic assignment.
Goronyo, in a statement by Abdullahi Mohammed, SA Media , also commended the outgoing Defence Attaché for his service and contributions to strengthening Nigeria-Egypt relations, citing his “patriotism, discipline, professionalism and commitment to duty.”
The Minister said the partnership between Nigeria and Egypt has continued to gain momentum under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, with both countries exploring areas of mutual interest including trade, agriculture, tourism, security, education and economic development.
“The growing partnership demonstrates the importance of African nations working together to harness the continent’s enormous human and natural resources,” Goronyo said.
“Africa has the population, resources and potential required to compete favourably with other continents.”
Speaking on behalf of the Honourable Minister of Works, Engr. David Nweze Umahi, and the Ministry, Goronyo said:
“We wish the outgoing Defence Attaché the very best in his future assignments and welcome the incoming Defence Attaché. Our doors remain open, and we will continue to support one another for the progress of our two countries and for the benefit of humanity.”
The outgoing Defence Attaché, Colonel Mohammed Ibrahim, expressed appreciation to the Minister for the reception, describing the meeting as significant as he prepares to conclude his assignment.
He introduced Colonel Mosaad and said he was confident the strong relationship between Egypt and Nigeria would be further strengthened.
The incoming Defence Attaché, Colonel Mohamad Mosaad, thanked the Minister for the warm reception and pledged to work towards deepening cooperation between both countries.
“Nigeria and Egypt, as two major African countries, have a shared responsibility to contribute to the development and advancement of the continent through stronger partnerships,” he said.
He expressed optimism about his new assignment and looked forward to identifying more opportunities for collaboration, investment and exchange of capabilities.
The meeting ended with renewed assurances of continued cooperation, mutual support and stronger bilateral relations between Nigeria and Egypt.
